School Budget Cuts Will Result in Lower Testing in More Ways Than One

With troubles in the economy still lingering, it is inevitable that the public schools will be affected at some point and see some sort of budget cut. Across the nation, many schools have already seen budget cuts and from the sounds of it, budget cuts are just around the corner for the area I live. It has been rumored that it is a possibility that all Specials will be canceled. Music, Art, Library, PE will all be gone. It doesnt seem right that the first thing to be cut is typically Education. It seems counter-intuitive to me to reduce the education of those who will be helping solve the issues we got ourselves in. I saw this article on Yahoo! about how physical activity results in higher grades. So we wont just be doing a diservice to our kids by reducing supplies, resources, PE, Music, Art and more…But we are taking away phsyical activity, not teaching them how to be healthy. State standards are already high and we expect teachers and students to reach these with less than they currently have. Something isn’t right here….Why not cut the costs from somewhere else?
